French Smallsword
Instructor: Cecil Longino
- Mondays from 7:00 to 8:00pm
While the French smallsword shares some similarities with its cousin the Italian rapier, it is the very weapon itself that facilitated the rise of French theory and practice. Similar to foil this class has a strong focus on correct posture, precise blade manipulation and graceful movements. As students advance they will practice techniques that emphasize opposition with the weapon and the unarmed hand along with blade seizures and disarms.
This class is located at the Salle Saint-George. A partial list of equipment suppliers can be found here.
Instruction of French smallsword technique is based on Domenico Angelo (1787), supplemented by concepts from Le Sieur Wernesson de Liancour (1686), and Le Sieur Labat (1690).
