William Elder

William Elder has been a student of historical fence since joining Academia della Spada in 2001. During this time he has studied extensively with Cecil Longino and Nathan Barnett, and has also sought out continued instruction from such notable classical and historical fencing instructors as Maestro Ramon Martinez, Maestro Jeannette Acosta-Martinez and Bob Charron. His studies include the rapier of Saviolo, the Spanish La Verdadera Destreza, Fiore dei Liberi's system of medieval combat and French foil. Currently, William leads the Fiore Studies group at Academia della Spada in Seattle. In addition to his studies at Academia della Spada, William also provides instruction in the use of pike and shot with the sixteenth-century pike group "Goode's Company of Foote".
